Racing is a huge part of Peloton Sports’ heritage and is in the DNA of many of our long term members. We have a large (and increasing) number of active racers. When not on our regular club rides, you’ll often find our members competing in races locally, further afield in NSW, interstate and even overseas! Our racers range from juniors all the way up to the “more mature” end of the masters categories, both male and female.
We race in criteriums, road races, time-trials, on the velodrome and cyclocross. With so many events, there’s a race for everybody, regardless of gender or age!
The club actively supports our racers in key events across the season, with team car support, the Peloton Sports marquee and manning of feed zones (for the really big events). But, more importantly, our racing members actively support each other, co-ordinating event entry, targeting key events across the season, sharing of tactics and tips from experienced racers, ensuring each of our racers have the best experience of racing as a team along with individual success!
Some of the regular local events where you’ll find us racing include:
- Tuesday nights at Heffron Park during the summer. The best (and hardest) crit racing in Sydney. No arguments. Run by Easts, Tuesday Heffron is a must for the stronger racers in our midst. A proper Sydney cycling institution. If you can win at Heffron, you can win anywhere.
- Tuesday nights at Eastern Creek, both summer and winter. Run by Marconi CC, these races attract big bunches across a range of categories. There is no better introduction to racing in Sydney and this is often where our juniors start out. Our more experienced racers will head here over the winter for a decent mid week hit out on the drag strip under floodlights.
- West Head Road Races run by MWCC. These happen on select Sunday’s throughout the year. This is an actual road race basically our doorstep (up and down West Head Road, in case that wasn’t obvious!). MWCC also run crits at the HART driver training school at St Ives on a Friday night during the summer - even closer to home!
- Calga Time Trials. The “race of truth” is gaining popularity in the club. On the first Sunday of every month you’ll see a number of our members take part in a time trial up in Calga (run by ATTA NSW - look them up on Facebook). With short or long course options, these events are an excellent way to test your form against the clock. There’s no hiding!
In addition, our experienced racers will target key NSW open events across the season, including the masters champs.
